Tulsa World, Okla. - March 09, 2010

Mar. 9--OKLAHOMA CITY -- Scott Pruitt, a former state senator from Broken Arrow, intends to seek the Republican nomination for attorney general, he said Monday.

"After much prayerful consideration with friends and family, I've decided to launch a campaign for attorney general," Pruitt said in a statement.

"While a formal announcement is still forthcoming, I'm now in the process of filing the necessary paperwork and getting my campaign team in place."

The Republican field for attorney general already includes Oklahoma City attorney Ryan Leonard and state Sen. Clark Jolley of Edmond.

Attorney General Drew Edmondson is vacating the office to run for governor.

Pruitt represented a Broken Arrow district in the state Senate from 1999 to 2007 and ran unsuccessfully for lieutenant governor.

He is a managing general partner of the Oklahoma City RedHawks baseball team.
